Once you have made the decision that you would like to work at home, you have to find that legitimate opportunity. Just as soon as you ask for advice, you are flooded with all these home business opportunities. But is a home business really for you?
The first consideration is funding. How much are you willing to pay to start a business. Most direct sales opportunities cost money, and just about any other business opportunity will also cost you money in one form or another. You need to think about what you can afford to risk.
How much risk is also a major consideration. Are you willing to go into debt over a home business or do you only want to spend a small amount of money?
How much time can you commit to your business, and how much time will it require to get your business moving? A home business may sound like a way to have more time with your family, but many actually require you spend MORE time working, especially in the beginning. Know if this is right for your family.
How important is a steady income to you? If you can cope with the fact that, especially in the beginning and often again in tough economic times, your income from your business may be slight, you may be more able to cope.
Will you be able to approach potential customers for your business? Whether you do this in person, on the phone or online, you need to be confident that you can win customers to your business or it will never grow.
If none of this is sounding appealing to you, then a work at home job may be more what you are looking for. It is hard to avoid scams, but it is possible. Ask around about opportunities that you find, and remember to never pay for a work at home job, just as you would never pay to get an outside the home job.
