Problems with Children

Not every child you deal with as a daycare provider will be easy to care for, and no matter how much you love children, there will be times when you are just plain frustrated with them. Prepare yourself in advance to deal with problems.

You should have rules for discipline written and posted, as well as give a copy to every parent, so that when a situation arises, you do not have to worry about whether or not the parent will agree with what you have decided to do. Include consequences if problems cannot be worked out, including no longer being allowed to come to your day care!

Make sure you always have a quiet place you can have a child sit for a time out or just some quiet time when there is a problem.

If one child is consistently a problem talk it over with the parents and come to an agreement for how this will be handled. You need to provide a united front to the child so if they are being disciplined and Mommy or Daddy walks in they do not expect to get off easy. If the parents will not work with you, consider whether or not they are worth your time for the money you earn. Once again, have the rules in writing!
