Have a site go down. Badly.

This is why I use multiple hosts. One of my hosts is down right now but good, or rather, bad. It’s driving me nuts, though, because this includes my best performing site on my usually best host. I almost never have downtime with them, and we’re going on two hours now.

Don’t know what they’re dealing with, but it’s serious. Server must have died or something, because when it did let me log on briefly at one point, ALL my files were gone.

I do have backups if necessary, although better would be backups from my host, since they should be doing it more often than I think to, at least for the databases. But with or without their help I can rebuild all but about a week’s postings with relatively little effort.

Obviously, the one good thing is that it is the middle of the night. My traffic would be down anyhow since it’s mostly a US audience. But it still drives me nuts and I don’t think I’ll be able to fall asleep until I see my site safely in place again.

Just checked the forum for my host (Site5), and they confirmed a disc failed and they’re migrating things to a new one.

And for those who are wondering, yes, they have been wonderful. Been with them a couple years and this is the first time I’ve had more than very, very brief downtime.
