Yes, as I was reminded by Shoemoney’s blog, it’s time to get ready for Christmas. Every year I promise myself to start getting ready in July. Every year I forget until at least August, so I’m really glad for the reminder.
Perhaps I should start thinking about Christmas any time I see one of those Spirit Halloween stores around. I see their signs all around town as they get ready to open up in a couple weeks.

For my sites, it’s time to start brainstorming what will be smart to suggest as gifts. I’d like to give my various sites a nice stack of links pointing out the various relevant possibilities. Even an information based website can do well on affiliate sales if you get an early enough start, after all.
Pretty much no matter what you sell, Christmas has great potential for earning money. There just aren’t many other times where people spend money so freely.
Don’t just offer the hot, new, must-have item on your site if it’s not relevant to your audience. You may be able to make it relevant (for example, people searching for beauty supplies may still play video games), but you have to think about what’s going to sell best to your audience. You don’t want to scare away your long term visitors for something so short term.
Have some fun as you make recommendations. A top ten list can work well, and you can make more than one. Top ten list for men interested in golfing, top ten list for gardeners, top ten list for busy moms, and so forth. Look at what gets attention on your site and build from it.
Keeping your angle on Christmas a little unique can help to build that valuable traffic and even more valuable sales. Start thinking now and beat the rush.
