I just read an article over on Web Worker Daily on treating your eyes right when you work on a computer all the time. For many of you reading this, it’s probably great advice.

Speaking of which, do me a favor. Look away from your monitor for 20 seconds. Try to find something at least 20 feet away.

That’s one of the tricks to reducing eye strain when you’re on the computer. Do it every 20 minutes or so.

I am fortunate enough to not need glasses yet, but I know the day will come. This means I don’t have to worry about the reminder that bifocals aren’t necessarily the best choice when you’re staring at the computer screen a lot.

I often have to remind my husband, when he’s home anyhow, to keep the door behind me closed and covered with curtains. I get terrible screen glare from it otherwise, and I can feel the difference in how my eyes feel.

The tip about keeping the monitor below eye level is great ergonomic advice. It’s something I learned back when I worked for the phone company. It’s easier on your eyes and your neck. Many people set their monitors up too high. It’s an easy mistake to make, especially if you buy a computer desk with a little raised platform for the monitor.

For most people, that platform is not necessary. Try keeping your monitor on the desk itself and get rid of that platform.

Good eye health is wonderful for your productivity.
