John Chow posted about a new position Google is offering. You wouldn’t be an employee; you’d be independent, but you would be collecting information from businesses from them.
Google wants to be able to offer all kinds of information about businesses through Google Maps, and of course to encourage the businesses to use AdWords. So they want people to sign up to go door to door with these businesses and get information about their hours, payment types accepted and such, so that the information Google Maps offers is more complete. You get $2 per business you get the information for that Google approves, and $8 when the business confirms the information.
There’s a great discussion on the blog about whether or not this would be worthwhile to try. Some say no way, while others are trying to come up with efficient ways to do this. After all, a potential $10/business is only worth it if you are a fast worker. Efficiency could make a huge difference.
