There’s been plenty of buzz about John Reese’s new videos about going for multiple streams of income. It’s a big controversy.
No, I haven’t watched the videos. I’ve thought about the topic often enough on my own and understand the issue pretty well, I think. If you want to learn more about the videos, go on over to Lynn Terry’s blog, as she covers it pretty well I think.
In essence, I suppose I do agree with him in some ways. I focused on my first site for a long time, and only after it was doing well did I really get into running multiple sites, which is much harder than running one. It strikes me as a good idea to do that and be careful about how much work you take on. When you run a home business it’s easy to get overwhelmed.
At the very least with your first website or other home business I think you need to give yourself the time to learn the ropes before you take on more. Yes, having essentially your own network of sites has a lot of benefits for you, but it’s a hell of a lot more work.
If you’re just starting out, start with one well focused business. Don’t say you’re going to start a website about everything, start a website about one thing you love and can earn money from. Give it some thought and work hard on it. It will give you the time you need to learn how to run a home business. Once it’s running solidly you can decide if it’s time to add on.
