I just read a post over on 5 Star Affiliate Programs that has a great warning. If you are promoting “free” offers which in fact start the consumer on something they will have to pay for, the FTC will not consider it to be free, and the ad can be considered misleading.

It will not matter that you did not write the ad or the offer. If you run the ad, you are responsible for it. Read up on the FTC’s rules on using the word “free” to ensure that you understand the rules.

Always remember that you are responsible for what you put up on your site. Saying you didn’t understand the rules is no excuse.
