It’s been a long time since I’ve done this, but I’ve added some new campaigns to my AdWords account. I decided to give one of my newer sites a little extra traffic and see how things go.

The campaigns are small right now, as I want to test them before plunging in too far. Very low budget too. It’s an area I haven’t tried pay per click advertising on before, so I want to get a feel for it before I spend much money.

One of the things I always remember to do is to keep my ad groups relatively small, and keep a very strong relation between the keywords and the words I use on the ads. At the same time, I try to keep the ads interesting.

AdWords advertising is something I’ve had moderate success with. Not great success, but I’ve done better than break even on enough campaigns to feel good about it. The challenge is always earning enough profit to make it worth the time, and to keep a sharp eye on whether or not a previous profit has vanished.

I also always make sure to go to a highly relevant page for each ad. You don’t want to pay for a click and then frustrate your potential customer by making them search your site for the product they thought they were clicking to. Annoying your customers is never a good idea.

The challenge as an affiliate doing AdWords advertising is waiting to see if there’s a profit. It can take time for sales to show up, and then you have to watch the return rate too. Profit can vanish pretty suddenly if you find out that there’s a high return rate.

I’d love to do well with AdWords and other pay per click engines. They’re challenging but there’s some definite money to be made too.
