Have you been keeping an eye on Google lately?

They’ve been up to a lot. There’s Google Base, which allows you to post all kinds of ads. They only stay up for a month, it would appear, but some are trying it out to see if it works well for traffic. AdWords advertisers can now separate their content network bid from their search bids. They now have an affiliate program open to all AdSense publishers to bring more into the network.

Then there’s Google Analytics. This is a beauty that has those in the SEO industry debating whether it’s a good idea to use or not… something about not wanting Google to get their stats. I can see a bit of that concern, but then again, if you’re running AdSense they have an awful lot of your information anyhow. That one’s so popular, even so, that they’ve had to close to new signups until further notice. Knowing Google, that won’t be long. They had to do much the same with Google Earth.

I know I’m forgetting a few items, but those are some of the interesting things they’ve been up to. They’re up to so much it’s hard to keep track and decide which tools to use and which to skip.

Using Ezine Announcer again

It’s been a long time since I dusted off this piece of software… mostly because I lost it in a computer crash. But I emailed the good folks at Ezine Announcer, and they were kind enough to send it to me, along with the links to the bonuses, tutorials and so forth.

No, that’s good service. I ordered this software back in 2003, I think. I’m not even sure of that, it’s been so long. But they were kind enough to look me up and get me a copy.

I’ve seen people post about Ezine Announcer on discussion boards, asking if it’s a spamming tool. I can understand where people could worry about that, but while it helps to automate your submission of your ezine to ezine directories and lists, you still do some of the work. Directory submissions must be reviewed and approved. You can do the same with any emails you do, and if a resource is obsolete, you can delete it easily. The email addresses on this program are ones that are specifically for announcing ezines; they aren’t random email addresses. I suppose the program could be abused, but that is not what it is designed for.

Yes, as you can tell, I’m deep into website promotion right now, and that’s why I’m mentioning the tools that are helping me get things done efficiently. It’s a part of running an online business that is all too easily neglected because it’s tedious, but it’s also extremely valuable. I am very much hoping to get some good results from all this work.

Tried out Article Submitter Pro

Great program! Had a few challenges with it, but overall Article Submitter Pro is well worth the money. The main problem was really pretty simple - I was having trouble getting it to select my article and biobox. Turned out to need a double click, even though when you select the article sites you want to submit to, only a single click is needed. Considering it looks like you’re aiming for a checkbox, it’s contrary to habit to double click, but still it’s a very good program.

I strongly recommend getting your passwords for each article site entered into Article Submitter Pro. This will save you a lot of time. It means taking some time for setup of these passwords, but the time savings is quite worthwhile. There are more than 200 Article Directories listed in Article Submitter Pro, so that’s quite a good start.

If you know of a directory that isn’t listed, all you have to do is go to the DIY tab, enter the URL of the article site (save it if you’re going to be submitting to it regularly!) and select what you need for each space by using the menu on the right hand bottom. Paste it in and you’re good to go.

Clearly, you get plenty of freedom with this program, and while it still takes a long time to submit to all the directories, it cuts down the work tremendously. The fully automated directories just take the time it takes to check and correct things as needed (you may often need to change the category), and the DIY and manual directories don’t take much longer at all.

I also love that the program keeps track for you where you have submitted your articles, so you don’t have to do that yourself. All in all, Article Submitter Pro is a great timesaver and well worth the money.

Trying out Affiliate Classroom

I decided today it was time for me to take advantage of Affiliate Classroom’s $1 trial and get a really good feel for it’s value. I signed up maybe five minutes ago, so I’m just beginning to explore. But I like what I’m seeing.

First of all, it has resources for the beginning, amateur and expert affiliate marketer. You don’t have to worry that everything will be over your head.

Now, I would consider myself an amateur affiliate marketer, even though I make fair money through affiliate marketing… more than many people I know. But I’m still going to start by reading the amateur information just to see if I’ve missed anything that basic. And you’d better believe I’m going to hit the expert section! But I suspect most of my time will be spent, appropriately enough, in the amateur section.

There’s an audio section explaining each of the sections of Affiliate Classroom, with a few paragraphs of text summarizing the section as well.

For complete beginners, there is the Complete Beginners Guide, a PDF study guide to help those who really don’t know anything about online marketing learn the basics. Even though the information was familiar to me, I found it to be an interesting read.

Well, I have a lot of reading to do. I’ll be posting updates over time.

Launched my own article site

As you hopefully know by now, writing articles is a great way to build your traffic. I’ve decided to get in on the other side of this marketing technique by launching an article site for you to submit your articles.

Registration, posting and using articles is free, of course. I hope to build this into a reasonably respectable article site, although that will take time.

You have to register to post an article, but this has the advantage that you can keep track of which of your articles you have submitted to my site. I know sometimes I have trouble remembering if I have submitted an article somewhere.

I have a lot of categories listed, but I’m quite open to more being added, so if you feel your article doesn’t fit somewhere, just make a suggestion by making a comment in the article snippet. I check and approve every article before posting, so I will see it and your comment won’t appear in the final posting. This means it may take a bit of time for your articles to appear, but it also means your articles won’t be appearing with spammy articles or articles that are nothing more than ads.

Blog Spam

I can tell my blogs are starting to show up every here and there - I’m starting to get hit by bits of blog spam. It isn’t too bad yet, just a minor annoyance that I have to go in and delete spam comments regularly.

I’m a firm believer in quality comments on a blog, and if the comment is relevant, I won’t delete it, link to your site or no. But spammy, irrelevant links go fast.
