How much marketing should you do?

Hopefully that isn’t really a question you need to ask, or if you do, you know that the answer is “LOTS!”

Ideally, you should work on marketing your business every single day. It doesn’t matter if you have enough customers now, you need to keep working for the future. Spend part of your earnings on marketing your business.

One very important aspect of marketing is keeping up on current trends. If you can spot an event that will help you to grow your business, then take advantage of it!

Keep an eye on what the competition is doing and figure out if you can do it better. The first to come up with an idea is not always the one to do it best. Obviously you can’t just copy them, but your competition certainly can serve as inspiration.

Of course, you need to pay careful attention to which of your marketing efforts are bringing back the best results. There’s no benefit to pursuing efforts that cost you more than they bring in.

Linkshare troubles

Linkshare is having serious problems with their legal entity registration. Pretty much everyone is being told they are unverifiable, so far as I can tell. Let’s see… I’m using my business name, the address it’s registered at, no mistakes, yet I can’t be verified.

Apparently, it’s a problem with their verification system, and it should be fixed early next week, but it’s delaying payments because they aren’t paying anyone until their legal entity is properly registered.

Perhaps the most annoying part is simply that they don’t tell you there’s a problem. The form pops up, but you can’t get it to verify you. A little communication would be good.

Looking for super affiliates?

Super affiliates are the affiliates who make the most money at this game. They know how to make a sale. But they can be hard to find.

Neil Shearing has recently introduced a new version of his Internet Success Spider to help marketers find super affiliates. Not only does it help you find the super affiliates, it helps you write to them so that they are encouraged to respond to you.

The guarantee’s pretty good too. One year to decide if you like it.

Wordtracker website updated

Have you seen this? Wordtracker’s website has undergone a big change. It looks great! Still the same great free trial (even has the old look, guess they haven’t updated everything), and now they have an API, so any developers can create tools to use them. Not free, of course, but I’m sure there will be plenty of search engine optimizers interested in this one.

I’m proud to say that I no longer have a job. That’s right, I am 100% self employed. I’m probably working harder than ever, but having a blast. It’s a risk, but I’m earning far more with my business than I was with my at home job, so it just wasn’t worth sticking with the job anymore. I have high expectations for the next year. I plan on greatly increasing my income through affiliate programs and starting several new websites. It seems like I always have new ideas I want to try, so it should be a lot of fun.

No more spyware from Download.com

Now this is a great bit of news, even if I think they’re only trying to cover themselves due to lawsuits over adware and spyware. Download.com has promised that they will no longer allow bundled adware in downloads offered through their site.

It’s so nice seeing offering adware become too much of a legal issue for websites to want to risk being associated with it. Adware has become a huge problem both for marketers and for computer users, and has huge implications for your online privacy.

If you aren’t running it already, I suggest you get Microsoft’s Windows Antispyware program, as well as AdAware and SpyBot Search & Destroy. All of these are free solutions, but only Microsoft’s program runs in the background. Better yet, it does not destroy your cookies, since those are harmless (never mind what people claim about them).
